Most Dangerous Cities in California for Drunk Driving

I’ve been studying drunk driving laws throughout the United States recently, and I began looking specifically into California’s DUI statistics. It’s shocking how prevalent DUI-related fatalities are throughout this state. If you live in the state of California, knowing which cities have the highest number of drunk drivers can make you more aware when driving on the road.

Whether you’re road-tripping or you live in one of these metropolitan areas, it’s essential to remain cautious if you want to prevent injuries and possible convictions. California has some of the strictest DUI laws nationwide. In fact, they’re considering lowering the legal BAC limit from 0.08 to 0.05. If you get into a wreck with a drunk driver or get charged with a DUI, your future can be permanently affected.

Between 2015 and 2017, there were forty-eight deaths in Bakersfield related to driving under the influence. This averages in at 4.6 DUI deaths for every 100,000 residents. With the DUI fatality rate in Bakersfield being almost two times as high as other large cities in California, it’s important to be extremely cautious when driving through this city. Always be aware of your surroundings and under no circumstances should you drive drunk.

San Bernardino

Because San Bernardino is home to California State University San Bernardino, this city has a high rate of drunk driving with 4.3 DUI deaths for every 100,000 residents. This university was ranked the fifth worst large university in the entire country for student car owners. College students don’t always understand the severity of driving under the influence, so it’s essential to drive with caution in this area.

Pomona is another college town in California, which homes California State Polytechnic University. This city has 3.58 DUI deaths for every 100,000 residents, and it can be scary driving on the road not knowing whether you may get into a wreck with a drunk driver. It’s likely that cops in this area are always on the lookout as well, so be particularly cautious of all driving laws when in this town.

Sacramento is the capital of California and it’s known to have many issues with drunk drivers. There are 3.79 DUI deaths for every 100,000 residents in Sacramento and many more injuries are caused by DUI-related accidents. Every DUI attorney in Sacramento stays consistently busy with cases. You don’t want to become another statistic on this list.

I’m fascinated with all of the new laws and statistics I’m learning about criminal litigation in the United States. Hopefully, by reporting my findings, I’m helping you all learn a little too. Stay safe out there and stay sober behind the wheel, eh?
